2022 in the rearview mirror

Once again, where the heck did the year go?

Once again, where the heck did the year go? And with 6 weeks left, how much more re-homing of people and stuff can we jam into 2022? This year has been the busiest EVER – about 25% more so than last. And it’s been a year of interesting & challenging projects, lots of “1st’s”, many new relationships & some goodbyes, all of which has made the time fly by. Yet again.

Recently (and thankfully), the “flow began to slow” and, Bill and I had a moment to look back on our accomplishments, the memorable moments, the highs & lows, the volume of work, and especially the people we’ve met.

That would include:

  • Our LARGEST ever packing job – over 280 boxes. The boxes, plus the furniture filled 4 moving vans! We were secretly glad we weren’t on the receiving end to unpack it all!
  • An extremely busy move schedule was fueled by the extremely crazy real estate market.
  • Lots of out-of-area moves – to Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, Florida (2), Savannah GA, Philly-area (3), Pittsburgh, Kansas
  • Coordinated our largest ever appraisal project – involving 3 other appraisers and months of detailed desk work!
  • Juggled the MOST concurrent projects ever – 43!  Thank goodness for spreadsheets.
  • Consigned our HIGHEST value ever of contents – $100,000 expected revenue for vintage Star Wars collectibles.  Let the Force be with the auctioneer when it all hits the auction block in 2023!
  • Sent 43 works of Antique oil paintings to the largest auction house in the country – with great results!
  • The final project for our very FIRST client.  In 2008, Anita and Ron hired us to liquidate antique English oil paintings.  Over the years as they downsized, we sold off Ron’s beloved academic library, their china and other antiques.  After Ron passed, we moved Anita to a retirement community and liquidated what didn’t make the move.  Just this month, we emptied her apartment and sold off her library and remaining effects.  I’m thankful they trusted us to support them through their transitions.  We’ll miss them both.
  • The 5th and final project for our client with the most moves. We moved MK for the first time on her 88th birthday.  Then we moved her 3 more times in 6 years, each move prompted by her frustration with the communities’ covenants (like not being able to drive her golf cart or plant flowers where she wanted).  While emptying her latest home, we were reminded of just how much we appreciated this independent and determined lady.
  • Guiding clients and their projects through move delays caused by supply chain and labor issues, a blistering housing market that rushed decision-making and timelines, all while working around the persistent threat of COVID.
  • And saying goodbye to too many of our clients, some who moved away, some who passed.

As always, we’re SO grateful and blessed for the opportunity to serve our clients.  And so blessed for the relationships we build along the way.  Bring on 2023!
