Just as good as the main event.

Stocking stuffers don’t have to be an afterthought—in fact, they can have a bigger impact on your loved ones than the larger gifts on your list. At Wondermind, we’re always thinking about mental health, so it’s no surprise that applies to our gift-giving too. All products featured on Wondermind are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

12 Products That Can Help You Build A Healthier Body Image

No toxic body talk in sight.

It’s not exactly easy to feel good about your body in 2024, when pretty much everyone online is filtered and society’s obsession with extreme diets and exercise has been rebranded as good-for-you “wellness.” Outside of throwing our phones into the ocean and moving to a cabin in the woods, it can feel like there’s no way to protect ourselves from all the toxic body chatter.

But the good news is that there are small things you can do each day to tune out the noise and build an appreciation for your body, and they don’t have to involve changing the way you eat or move. From guided journals that will help connect you to the beauty of your body exactly as it is to perspective-shifting books that will change how you see (and talk to) yourself, adding the right products to your toolkit can go a long way in improving your self-image. We rounded up the 12 most impactful, below.

All products featured on Wondermind are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.
  1. Filled with inspiring quotes and journal prompts to help you shift the way you think about your body, this journal can help you cultivate confidence and get out of the constant comparison trap that many of us get stuck in.

  2. When you’re short on time, a card deck like this one can provide a quick body image reset. Each card outlines one tip for improving your body image followed by questions to answer or an action to take (like creating a list of the things you say about your body) to help drive the point home.

  3. Obsessing over your skincare routine can be just as bad for your mental health as obsessing over exercise, but there’s something to be said for indulging in a body oil that has nothing to do with how you look. Taking a moment to rub this nourishing oil from head to toe can ground you in the present moment and help you get in touch with your senses.

  4. This journal from body image advocate Virgie Tovar proves that working on your self-love doesn’t have to be dreary. With colorful, inclusive artwork and a playful sticker sheet, the journal pairs short essays about Tovar’s personal body image experiences with writing prompts to help readers learn to love their body as is.

  5. This card deck has a focus on health and well-being that’s refreshingly non-toxic. Filled with affirmations that focus on being grateful for all that your body can do for you, you’ll come away feeling better about yourself…not worse.

  6. Small reminders can go a long way when you’re healing your relationship with food. This pretty fork from Etsy is stamped with the message “Feed Your Joy” to turn down the volume on any food shame and remind you that nourishing yourself with the foods you love is an act of love in itself.

  7. If you’ve ever thought that changing your body would drastically improve your life, this is the book for you. A longtime personal trainer and coach who’s watched hundreds of clients debunk that myth, Kneeland explores how faulty that line of thought is and argues that working towards body neutrality (the ability to accept and respect your body as is) is far better for your self-image.

  8. For anyone going through eating disorder recovery, these affirmation cards offer helpful reminders in the tough moments when you’re not sure you want to keep going. Statements like “Every day I become healthier and stronger” will bring you back to why you started this journey in the first place.

  9. Taking a bath feels like a revolutionary act in this era of trying to optimize everything in our lives. Baths are considered indulgent, not productive in the traditional (read: toxic) sense, and have no impact on how you look but, damn, they feel good! And tapping into things that make your body feel good is really what it’s all about.

  10. This workbook is great if you’re looking for a science-backed approach to healing your relationship to food and recovering from an eating disorder. Based on more than 20 years of research, it outlines skills based in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) that can help you build healthier coping mechanisms, a stronger support network, and a long-term path to recovery.

  11. Regular journaling can help you explore the way you see yourself and identify what makes your body image better or worse. If you’re not sure where to start, this deck of writing prompts focused on self-love from the poet and illustrator Rupi Kaur is a great guide.

  12. For people in marginalized bodies who are constantly sent messages that they’re not good enough, developing a healthy body image can be even more difficult. This book merges memoir with reflection prompts to help readers unpack how diet culture and racism work together to make us feel bad about ourselves.

12 Products That Make Traveling Way Less Stressful

Friendlier skies, right this way.

Visiting new places? So fun! But actually getting to them? Eh, not so much. Between the hours spent in security lines, stuck in wildly uncomfortable seats, and eating flavorless yet freakishly expensive food, traveling can be a pretty dreadful experience. Add in the initial stress of packing and trip planning and you might just want to hide in your home watching Parts Unknown forever. But, hear us out, the right travel products can make a huge difference.

To help make your upcoming journeys a little less stressful, we rounded up 12 travel products that will make getting from point A to point B a little easier.

All products featured on Wondermind are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.
  1. If you tend to overpack (we’re not judging), packing cubes can help you organize the chaos. These ones from Calpak go the extra mile by compressing everything down to save space.

  2. The last thing anyone wants when traveling is to get sick, making masks a must-have when you’re surrounded by infinite strangers. These sleek black ones work well and will fit your face better than the rest.

  3. It’s hard to leave the house without hand sanitizer these days but for those of us who are tired of the usual clinical scent, this holiday-themed 5-pack keeps things exciting.

  4. This is the carry-on duffle bag to rival them all. It sits comfortably atop a roller bag when you’re double bagging it, has the best organization compartments so you can find everything fast, and is made of a material that will still look good after the hell of traveling.

  5. If your chargers tend to get tangled or lost at the bottom of your bag, this dedicated tech case is a lifesaver. It makes your chargers easily accessible and protects them from damage in the process.

  6. Calling everyone with a 12-step beauty routine—this one’s for you. If your beloved products are weighing your bag down (literally), putting a small amount of each product into TSA-approved travel bottles like these can be a game-changer.

  7. Another great option is to buy a travel set filled with mini versions of your favorite products. This hydration-centric skincare set from Laneige is a favorite for dehydrated post-plane skin.

  8. Trying to sleep on a plane isn’t exactly…easy. But if there’s any mask that can help, it’s this one from Nidra which totally blocks out light and comfortably contours to your face.

  9. This portable charger, which can provide multiple iPhone charges before needing to recharge, frees you up from running all over the airport trying to find a free outlet. You’re welcome!

  10. Beis bags are worth all the hype, and their toiletry case is no different. With two compartments for easy organization and a stand-up mirror that comes in handy on the go (or when your Airbnb is lacking in good bathroom lighting), this case has you covered.

  11. If you’re looking for a good Away dupe for less than half the price, this is it. With 37 liters of space and 360-degree spinner wheels, it’s the perfect no-hassle choice for a long weekend getaway.

  12. If you’re cool with splurging, these super comfy earbuds can give you a safe space when your seatmate is snoring or having the loudest phone conversation known to man. Plus, the spatial audio feature makes you feel like you’re at a concert rather than terminal C.

21 Therapist-Approved Gift Ideas That Will Genuinely Improve Someone’s Life

You can’t say you aren’t curious…

If there’s anyone who really knows a thing or two about what people want, it’s a therapist. After all, they spend their days listening to people express their needs, desires, and fears and set them up with the right tools to navigate them.

While most of these tools are intangible, such as mindset or perspective shifts, they’re also well-versed in what products can set people up for success when it comes to leading a happier, calmer, and more balanced life. So who better to ask for gift ideas than them?

To help you pick out uber-thoughtful gifts this holiday season, we asked members of our Wondermind Advisory Committee to share the gifts they love to give to the people closest to them. And, while the concept of gift-giving and receiving is generally not encouraged between patients and therapists to avoid harming the therapeutic relationship, they also highlighted a few small gifts (like helpful books) that they recommend to their clients.

All products featured on Wondermind are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.
  1. “Gifts I tend to buy loved ones are grounded in self-care. If the person loves pedicures but is attempting to cut costs, I love gifting the Olive and June pedicure set. It’s a great way to care for yourself at home, and a little color on your feet can brighten your day!” —Nina Polyné, PsyD, licensed clinical psychologist

  2. “Audiobooks can be helpful for people who experience insomnia. A gift membership to Audible is nice because the person can select a book that meets their interests. This can help an individual escape their anxious thoughts and focus on an engaging story.” —Nina Polyné, PsyD, licensed clinical psychologist

  3. “Research shows that giving is good for your mental health, so on some occasions, I will donate to a charity in the name of a loved one, giving each of us a boost and, of course, helping those in need. Organizations like Heifer International and NAMI are among my favorites.” —Ryan Howes, PhD, licensed clinical psychologist

  4. I’m a big believer in experiences over things, so whenever possible I like to gift an event they can share with friends or loved ones, like tickets to a movie, play, concert, or amusement park.” —Ryan Howes, PhD, licensed clinical psychologist

  5. “I like to gift a weighted blanket—they can be helpful for some people in reducing anxiety, improving sleep, or just increasing comfort.” —Jessica Stern, PhD, licensed clinical psychologist

  6. “I also like to give a subscription to something that will either spark joy or will add convenience to someone’s life, such as a bundle of passes for a meditation class, a subscription to a pottery class, or a meal delivery kit service.” —Jessica Stern, PhD, licensed clinical psychologist

  7. “I have one idea that I use for gifting. It may be a bit corny, but I gift my book: How Am I Doing? 40 Conversations to Have With Yourself. It’s a good book that reminds us all to focus on taking care of and knowing who we are.” —Corey Yeager PhD, LMFT, psychotherapist

  8. This has so many wonderful essential oils that are calming and remind us to take a breath! The best part? It’s super easy to keep on you anywhere you go.” —Sarah Ahmed, RSW, psychotherapist

  9. “For the days when we all feel sore, uneasy, or have hip tightness, this massager does the trick. I keep it next to my bed and use it to massage the soles of my feet before bed, which feels great!” —Sarah Ahmed, RSW, psychotherapist

  10. “These lacrosse balls are great for any tightness in the hip flexors or shoulders—rolling on them loosens up the muscles right away. I’ll often add some peppermint oil on my shoulders afterward and hop in a hot shower, which loosens up the body instantly!” —Sarah Ahmed, RSW, psychotherapist

  11. “A fun gift to give is a sound bowl. They come in beautiful colors and varying sizes, and some are delicately carved and etched. If you believe in the power of intention, they are great for meditation and for relaxing the central nervous system. They are also very portable. My family and friends are always particularly excited to receive any kind of ‘wellness’ gift like this.” —John Tsilimparis, MFT, psychotherapist

  12. “One gift I give to clients is books. Typically, these are books I believe will be vital adjuncts to our sessions and to themes and issues they have been grappling with. They are usually thought-provoking books that might inspire deeper compassion for themselves and maybe even a better understanding of the world and people they will encounter in the future. In addition, the books could help them continue seeing and respecting frames of reference other than their own.

For example, the 2019 book by Susan Cain called Bittersweet is a wonderful, transformative gift book. It’s very thought-provoking and will have you rethink the concept of grief and sadness in a very poignant and colorful way.” —John Tsilimparis, MFT, psychotherapist

  13. “Brad Stuhlberg’s book Master of Change is another inspiring read. All of these books are worthy gifts to clients as well as family and friends. It’s important to note that books are handy companions that can act as transitional objects for clients who will be detaching from their therapist at the time of termination. They are more than mementos of the relationship; they are the fruits of their hard work. They represent the growth they have gained during the therapeutic process.” —John Tsilimparis, MFT, psychotherapist

  14. “This is a great gift for people who only have a few minutes to relax. It can also relieve eye fatigue, alleviate headaches, and enhance quality sleep.” —Juan Romero-Gaddi, MD, psychiatrist

  15. “If you’re a fan of weighted blankets, you may want one of these. They can provide a sense of security and comfort and are a great gift for those who want to decrease stress and improve their sleep quality. They come in multiple sizes and are a pretty cool decoration piece as well.” —Juan Romero-Gaddi, MD, psychiatrist

  16. “I think journals are wonderful gifts for those who might enjoy them, along with complementary pens, markers, and stickers for loved ones who like to create and write.” —Jenny Wang, PhD, licensed psychologist

  17. “A candle is my go-to gift. It’s a big part of my day and evening rituals—being able to play with the lighting and sensory input in the room is helpful for shifting in and out of work mode and cultivating an overall sense of calm and presence. My favorite is this one from Jenni Kayne.” —Miriam Kirmayer, PhD, clinical psychologist

  18. “I’m also really into gifting card decks with conversation starters or calls to action that spark connection and well-being. Some favorites include this Cultivating Conversations Card Deck by Wilde House Paper and these All Things Are Looking Up cards developed by Dr. Deepika Chopra.” —Miriam Kirmayer, PhD, clinical psychologist

  19. “The gift of a serene soundscape can provide an oasis of calm in one’s daily routine, aiding in relaxation and mental clarity.” —Thomas Vance, PhD, psychologist

  20. I love to gift a tea sampler set. A selection of fine teas can provide a daily ritual of tranquility and warmth, encouraging people to take a peaceful moment to unwind.” —Thomas Vance, PhD, psychologist

  21. “This creative stress reliever promotes focus and calm, offering a therapeutic escape from life’s complexities.” —Thomas Vance, PhD, psychologist

21 Gifts for Your Anxious Friend

Give the gift of chill.

We all have that friend (or five) whose baseline anxiety levels are just a tad higher than average. They’re the friends searching, “how to calm down.” They’re the ones who constantly live with a sense of impending doom, often assume the worst, and just generally feel nervous a lot of the time. And, honestly, we might even be that friend.

There’s no shame in the always-sort-of-anxious game—all it takes these days is reading the news—but how nice would it be if you could give your pal (or yourself) the gift of chill? Of course, for people diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, evidence-based treatments like therapy and medication are always a great option, but layering in the right lifestyle tweaks and helpful tools can’t hurt.

To help you win the gifting game this year, we rounded up the ultimate gift guide for the most anxious among us (here’s looking at…me), below.

All products featured on Wondermind are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.
  1. Need somewhere to make sense of all your anxious thoughts? This limited-edition planner box was curated to make it easier to start and stick with a mental fitness routine. Inside the quilted dust bag you’ll find a 90-page discbound journal with three different planner inserts, mood stickers, page flags, gel pens, and much more. Plus, it’s customizable and sustainable, so you can add, remove, or rearrange pages to fit your needs.

  2. Studies have shown that aromatherapy can help alleviate anxiety, and is there any time more anxiety-prone than bedtime? This lavender pillow spray is the perfect gift for friends who tend to toss and turn.

  3. Anxiety can make it tough to sit still and focus, but fidget toys can help channel your energy and help you hone in on one task instead of 30. This cool tie-dye fidget cube is easily portable and can give your friends a sense of control when they need it most.

  4. Have a friend who wakes up to TikTok and wonders why she’s stress-sweating at 8 a.m.? Give them the gift of a beautiful alarm clock (remember those?) that has a gradual sunrise light and replaces jarring alarm sounds with that of chirping birds and wind chimes.

  5. Who wants to make eye contact when they’re anxious? Not us, nope. These dark-lensed shades will pull double duty for your friend by looking chic AF (even when you’re spinning out) and hiding their face from the world.

  6. Writing out your thoughts and fears can be super helpful in lessening anxiety. Encourage your bestie to do a morning or evening braindump with this adorable notebook.

  7. For those who can’t pull out a fidget cube on back-to-back meeting days, fidget jewelry is another great option. This silver fidget ring with beads is perfectly discrete and can help you quietly focus your attention even in the most crowded rooms.

  8. Since aromatherapy can help calm you down, scented candles are a great gift for the worriers among us. Lavender can be especially soothing, so this candle mixing French lavender, sage and patchouli is the perfect choice.

  9. We get it, therapy is expensive, but you can gift your friends the next best thing with this Anti-Anxiety Notebook that uses popular cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to help people identify, challenge, and change any unhelpful beliefs that might be driving their anxiety.

  10. Sensitivity to noise can increase when you’re feeling anxious, so sometimes it’s just better to block it out. These sleek headphones have 11 (yes, 11) levels of active noise canceling to suit any STFU situation.

  11. The best part about anxiety sweats is… absolutely nothing. Treat your friends who tend to heat up when they’re anxious to this portable handheld mini fan so they can cool down no matter where they are.

  12. Reading stories from other people who struggle with anxiety can help you feel less alone. This beautiful book by Scott Stossel mixes his personal experience with the disorder with the history of scientists, philosophers, and writers who have tried to make sense of it over the years.

  13. Another great option for an anxiety cool-down is an ice roller, like this beloved one on Amazon. Similar to aromatherapy, the cold sensations on your skin can help ground you in your body and get you out of your head when you need it most.

  14. If your friends haven’t hopped on the weighted blanket train yet, the holidays are a perfect time to try one. This OG weighted blanket from Bearaby will keep them cozy and chill them out in the process.

  15. If you know someone whose anxiety skyrockets when they don’t have a plan, we’ve got a great gift idea. This planner—broken into days, weeks, and months—will help your anxious friends stay organized and set monthly goals to help them stay on track.

  16. There’s nothing worse than a noisy apartment when you’re trying to relax or get some sleep. This classic white noise sound machine, which even therapists use to protect the privacy of their patient conversations, is a must-get for any city dwellers who lean extra-anxious.

  17. Treat friends who tend to bite their nails or pick their cuticles when anxious to this cute manicure kit, which comes with a nail clipper, cuticle cutter, and nail file to help clean things up.

  18. For those who are really struggling to manage their anxious thoughts, a workbook can be super helpful. Written by a leading expert in cognitive behavioral therapy, this book provides great tips for quieting worry, overcoming fears, and tackling negative self-talk.

  19. The meditation hype is huge for a reason—it really can help lessen stress and anxiety. Give your friend the gift of an annual Headspace subscription to inspire them to incorporate a daily mindfulness practice that’ll help them slow down and chill out.

  20. Who says stuffed animals are just for kids? This adorable weighted sloth is designed to hug your body, giving you (or your friend) a little extra TLC when you need it. Pro tip: rest it on your chest when your heart rate is running high to calm you down.

  21. Anxiety can make you feel a little, shall we say, chaotic. To help settle jittery nerves and that all-over-the-place focus, try this mindfulness coloring book which also makes for a great gift. There’s something soothing and nostalgic about putting your digital devices away and getting lost in the different illustrations.

12 Self-Care Products on Amazon That People Swear By

Happy Prime Day, folks.

We love a holiday that doesn’t come with family tension, triggering diet talk, and awkward chit chat with our second cousin once removed. Enter Prime Day, which Amazon is treating us to a second time this year on October 10th and 11th. While we’re not into buying things just for the sake of it (we’ve had enough therapy to know that won’t fill the void), we do love a good deal when it’s for a product that really benefits our daily routine in some way. To help you sort through the noise (read: pages and pages of deals), we asked our community to share the best self-care products they buy on Amazon, below.

All products featured on Wondermind are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.
  1. “I’ve been on the hunt for a sweatpants upgrade for the days when I just can’t bear to put on real clothes, and these grey ones from Amazon have been an instant fave. They’re nicer than my grubby college sweatpants but still super cozy and don’t break the bank.” —Clara F., 25

  2. “As a big runner, I’m always dealing with mysterious aches and pains so this mini Theragun has been a lifesaver. Using it even for just a few minutes makes my sore muscles feel better, and since it’s small enough, I can take it with me whenever I travel.” —Carl L., 34

  3. “I miss the luxury of taking baths but my small New York apartment only has a shower. My friend recently turned me on to these ‘shower steamers’ though and I’m obsessed—I use them at night when I have more time to really indulge in a long shower and they make my not-fancy bathroom feel like a spa.” —Kerry W., 31

  4. “I bought this lip balm after seeing countless recommendations from celebrities and influencers and I have to say, it’s really that good. It gives your lips a nice, moisturized glow without being too sticky and the Berry ‘flavor’ smells delicious.” —Brianna D., 25

  5. “This facial massage tool is completely worth the price. I use it after a long day at work when I seem to hold a lot of tension in my face and jaw, and on mornings when I haven’t slept well and need to ‘de-puff’ my face. It feels really good and I find the ritual relaxing.” —Leia R., 30

  6. “I’m glad breaking out is more accepted these days—like why should we be made to feel bad for something out of our control? But sometimes I really just want my pimples to peace out. I love these pimple patches from Hero Cosmetics, not only do they work really well but they also help conceal some of the angry redness that my cystic pimples bring.” —Delaney V., 28

  7. “Yes, I consider my daily cup or two of coffee to be self-care, because I’d probably be a wreck without it. I love my Keurig K-Elite machine because you can make hot or iced coffee in under a minute, and I’m no longer spending $5 a day on coffee (thank god).” —Alicia M., 26

  8. “Doing yoga three times a week is my self-care non-negotiable. Even when everything else goes out the door, I make sure to prioritize that. Having this Gaiam mat at home makes it super easy for me to get a workout in even if I can’t make it to a class.” —Olivia P., 32

  9. “In the fall and winter, I really need to step up my skincare routine because my skin is super dry. Once I’m done with serum and moisturizer, I seal everything off with this nourishing Vitamin E oil which helps to keep the usual flakiness at bay.” —Taylor F., 29

  11. “Scent has always encouraged me to take a minute for myself and fully settle into my environment. So on nights when I have trouble winding down from the day (you could say I’ve been burning the candle at both ends lately), I love using this candle to help ease into relaxation. This brand, Boy Smells, has a variety of interesting scents that create a peaceful vibe, but the LES scent will always have my heart.” —Claudia L., 27

  12. “A cup of frothy coffee or a matcha latte adds a little something fancy to my morning ritual and helps me start the day on a more positive note. This handheld electric frother makes a barista-esque drink in my kitchen, so I can take a few extra minutes each morning to sip, reflect, and caffeinate. Pinkies up!” —Jordan F., 33
